Join the Olympia Holiday Chorus!

Each year the Olympia Chorus hosts a guest night for people who want to check us out for the purpose of singing holiday songs with us and participating in holiday performances — NO STRINGS ATTACHED! No need to join, pay membership fees, purchase a costume, or attend past the 2017 holiday season. (We hope you will continue to come, of course!)

Please join us Monday, November 6, 2017 for our holiday open house/guest night to get a folder of our holiday music and step onto the risers with us for a couple months!

If you’re not able to make this rehearsal, please let us know and we will make accommodations for you. Every rehearsal is open to guests!

We hope to see you there!

Please welcome our new director, Ted Chamberlain!

As of August 2017 we have a new frontline director, Ted Chamberlain! Ted brings a wealth of knowledge related to music theory, tuning, barbershop, and vocal development. He also directs the men’s Seattle Seachordsmen chorus, coaches quartets and small groups, and offers personal voice lessons.

We are very pleased to have Ted join us, and we look forward to the years ahead!

In Loving Memory of Jack Anderson

2002 Jack AndersonJack was our beloved director of 46 years. He retired from directing in 2011 and passed away on January 22, 2016.

In 1965, Jack’s wife, Irene, co-founded and chartered the Olympia Sweet Adelines and asked Jack to be the director. During that same time, Jack directed the men’s barbershop chorus, the Puget Sounders and continued to direct them for 39 years. With Jack at the helm, the Olympia Chorus won many medals through the years. The highlight of his career as our director came in May of 1978, when the chorus won 1st place at Region 13 competition in Regina, Saskatchewan.

In 1968, Jack joined a men’s barbershop quartet called the Artesians, and in 1972 they won 1st place, becoming the Evergreen District Champions.

Even though Jack retired from directing in 2011, he remained close to our chorus and was always there to support us at any and all events. He will be sorely missed by all.

Jack Anderson’s memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 13th, 11am, at Trinity Lutheran Church located at 2020 Franklin Street SE in Olympia. There will be a reception following the service.
